Pakistan court to hear politicians’ appeals
The bank of Pakistan’s Supreme Court is to hear appeals from politicians, raised after an amnesty for political graft charges.
The three judges headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, the appeals are heard.
Senior officials, including interior and defense ministers are among those most affected by the decision of the Supreme Court.
The controversial law granting amnesty to leaders launched by former President Pervez Musharraf.
The court last week cleared the way for possible prosecution of the president’s political allies, Asif Zardari, though still protected by the immunity President.
Government of Pakistan said he would resign after the court decision.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government had no intention of bowing to opposition demands to resign.
Mr. Malik is one of approximately 250 staff members whose corruption and criminal cases were opened again – he has a summons to appear before a court against corruption occurs after repealing amnesty.
President Zardari was holding talks with party leaders in crisis.
Correspondents say that, although government officials, including President Zardari even legally able to stay in power, the question is whether this should be moral in the cloud of corruption hanging over them do not stay away.
