Activists of the opposition in Kyrgyzstan, organized a hunger strike in
protest for two weeks.
They want an end to political repression in the country following the
arrest of opposition leader.
The EU expressed its concern about continuing attacks on journalists and
opposition politicians expressed.
This also renewed its call for an inquiry into the murder of a Kyrgyz
journalists in December.
A group of opposition supporters have, like a rotating hunger strike in
the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, as well as in the Osh region in the
south of the country demand.
They demand an end to political repression in the country.
The action started before 14 days after a former Defense Minister Ismail
Isakov was the opposition leader was sentenced to eight years in prison
for corruption.
Two other opposition politicians are also in the test.
The European Union recently expressed its deep concern over the increasing
attacks and intimidation against opposition activists and independent
journalists in Kyrgyzstan.
The EU has noted the case of Kyrgyz journalists Genadiy Pavluk in
neighboring Kazakhstan assassinated in December.
He was thrown the entire sixth floor of the building with their hands and
feet.
Mr. Pavluk was in the process of creating an opposition newspaper.
The government has denied any involvement in the attacks.
Time, as an island of democracy in Central Asia was described, Kyrgyzstan
recently downgraded by the Washington-based rights watchdog Freedom House
as unfree.
Critics point to growing concentration of power in the hands of President
Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his family.
Bakiyev recently appointed his son, a government major, all the grants and
loans in foreign support of the head.
